Daily Life at Heritage House

All in a day at Heritage House Elder Care

An average day often begins between 7:30 - 8 AM. when staff awakens and assist residents with morning cares. While some may require only reminders and / or minimal assistance, others may need help with their oral cares, peri care, combing their hair and dressing.

Breakfast is served around 8:30 AM. A group blessing is said before meals, followed by administration of medications. Blood sugars are obtained and insulin injections given at this time if indicated.

While resident’s eat their breakfast, the kitchen staff is busy with clean up. During this time, the floor staff empties bedside commodes, makes beds and tidies up resident bedrooms.

After breakfast, staff assists resident’s away from the dining room table. Depending on the individual’s routine, they are either placed in their rooms to read the paper, or in the parlor to watch TV. Some enjoy going to the front porch to watch traffic from the large picture window. Others may prefer to remain at the table for an extra cup of coffee and to socialize.

Before lunch, resident’s are gathered to participate in an optional exercise program which consists of deep breathing and gentle range of motion. Once everyone is at the table, grace is commenced, pills are administered and the meal is served at noon.

At 1:30 PM, we offer age appropriate games and activities such as Bingo, cards, puzzles and group discussion. By 2:30 PM, resident’s are offered coffee and a snack at the dining room table.

Supper is served at 6:00 PM. Bedtime cares begin by 7 O’clock. While some resident’s enjoy an earlier bedtime, others are given the option to stay up later.
